GSA is a student-run High School club that meets once a week during lunch. It provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, and talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression. While GSA clubs have traditionally served as safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth to build awareness and community as well as prevent discrimination and harassment in schools, they are now emerging as vehicles for deeper social change that extends beyond individual schools. GSA club is registered on https://gsanetwork.org/

Peer mediation empowers our students to help their fellow classmates to resolve conflicts through thoughtful words and compromise. Our social worker Ms. Davis holds training once a year in which volunteer students grades 7 to 11 are certified and become mediators for not only York Early College Academy but for our building in which we share with Emerson and MS8. Weekly meetings are held by our Dean Mr. Gross but our peer mediators have an on-call schedule to help when help is needed. Mediators take on a leadership role and work with partners.
Peer Mediation Benefits:
empowers students to resolve conflicts through words and comprises
reduces fights and altercations
reduces suspension and staff involvement in discipline
For more information on becoming a Peer Mediator please see Mr. Gross in room 420 or he can be reached via email at MGross4@schools.nyc.gov
